ChromaLuxe is the leading producer of aluminium panels that are used in the dye sublimation printing process. This process infuses dye-based inks into the patented ChromaLuxe coating on the aluminium panels, creating prints with richer colours, greater clarity and a more resilient finish than traditional mediums like canvas or paper.
-
Of course! Whether you’re wanting to create an artwork to display or simply want to hang your memories on the wall, we can print your photos in a range of sizes and orientations to give you an exceptional, long-lasting result.
-
Although it might sound complicated, the process of ChromaLuxe photo printing is actually fairly simple and can be broken down into five steps.
Once your order has been placed we check to ensure that the file you provided is optimised for the size of the print.
We print your photograph onto special sublimation paper - this will then transfer the image onto the ChromaLuxe panel.
The panel is cut to the required dimensions and cleaned thoroughly before the transfer is attached and they are loaded into our large format heat press.
Inside the press, heat and pressure fuse the dye into the coating on the metal panel to create a brilliant, long-lasting print.
The transfer paper is removed, a float mount installed if necessary, and the finished print is handed over ready for immediate display.
-
Once we have confirmed your quote and you have approved the print, please allow 4 days for printing and packaging. For those on a time-sensitive deadline, we will do everything we can to ensure your print is completed and in your hands as quickly as possible.
-
Yes, we can! Large-format photographs such as panoramas and landscapes are especially well-suited to ChromaLuxe printing and we are able to offer prints in various orientations up to a dimension of 40 x 60inches or 102 x 152cm.
-
Independent laboratory testing has shown that ChromaLuxe metal prints have a display permanence rating of up to 65 years under normal lighting conditions, meaning that the human eye will not detect any noticeable fading or shift in the colour balance until the print is ready to collect a pension.
This rating is also three times higher than traditional silver-halide prints that have been framed under UV glass and is far more resilient to physical damage.
-
Part of the appeal of ChromaLuxe prints is how permanent and durable they are: there are no frames to break, glass to smash, or paper to rip. The special ChromaLuxe coating renders the prints scratch, stain, and moisture resistant, and makes them incredibly easy to clean – just spray the surface with any standard household cleaner and wipe it down with a cloth.
-
While our ChromaLuxe prints can be displayed outdoors without any risk of damage to the panel or print, we recommend not leaving them fully exposed to direct sunshine in order to prolong the life of your print and reduce fading and colour imbalance.
-
ChromaLuxe prints do not need to be framed or kept behind glass as the panel and coating of the print provide more than enough protection. However, if you prefer the look of a framed print you can frame it just as you would anything else.

About Southern Alps Imagery -
From photographer to printer.
Southern Alps Imagery was established by Cory Marshall in 2019. An accomplished travel and landscape photographer, Cory is originally from California and made the decision to settle in Wanaka in 2017 with his wife Kelly. Having travelled throughout Aotearoa documenting the immense and awe-inspiring locations of this unique country, the pair were drawn to Wanaka by an unshakeable love of the dramatic and serene Southern Alps.
Cory’s experience with ChromaLuxe prints began while living in Colorado and California, and it became one of his favourite methods of showcasing his work. Sadly, there were no companies in New Zealand offering ChromaLuxe printing at the time of Cory’s move, and so after a great deal of research and a trip back to the United States to learn the process firsthand, Cory became the first in the country to offer his fellow artists and photographers an affordable and long-lasting way of displaying their work and gives non-photographic visual artists the ability to print their work on ChromaLuxe panels.
When he is not busy creating prints, Cory can be found manning his gallery in Queenstown or wandering the mountains and forests of the South Island searching for the next perfect photograph.
